Why are quoted sentences a different kind of challenge?

Famous quotes and sayings combine quotation marks, commas, dashes, and capitalized opening letters into a single flowing sentence. The em dash (—) used to credit a source doesn’t show up much in everyday writing, so it deserves its own exercise.

• Remember to capitalize the first letter right after you open a quotation mark.
• Make leaving a space before and after the attribution dash automatic.

How should you practice?

• Move straight into the punctuation (period, comma) that follows the closing quotation mark, without pausing.
• Look for natural breathing points in longer sentences, but don’t break your fingers’ rhythm.
• Treat the attribution part — the name after the dash — as its own block and try to pick up speed there.
