About
TypeWPM is a free typing speed test and 10-finger touch typing platform for anyone who wants to type faster and more accurately on a keyboard. No sign-up required, no ads, and it runs entirely in your browser without sending your data to any server.
How is WPM calculated?
WPM (words per minute) is the most common measure of typing speed. TypeWPM calculates it as follows:
WPM = (correct characters typed ÷ 5) ÷ minutes elapsed
Characters are divided by 5 because the average word is considered to be about 5 characters long. This allows tests in different languages and with different word lengths to be compared fairly.
What is the accuracy rate?
Every character you type during the test is compared to the target word in real time. Accuracy is the ratio of correct keystrokes to total keystrokes, shown as a percentage at the end of the test.
Where is my data stored?
Your best scores, test history and streak are stored only in your
own browser's local storage (localStorage) by default.
There's no need to create an account, and nothing is shared with us
or any third party — unless you explicitly submit a score to the leaderboard or create a challenge link, both of which are opt-in
and show only the nickname, WPM and accuracy you choose to send.
The site keeps improving
TypeWPM is an actively developed project; new lessons, additional word pools, and statistics features are added regularly.
