Typing speed test — frequently asked questions
How is WPM (words per minute) calculated?
TypeWPM counts every correct character you type, divides by five (the average word length), and divides that by the minutes elapsed. This lets tests in different languages be compared fairly.
What is a good typing speed?
Around 40 WPM is average for an adult. 60–70 WPM is fast, and 90+ WPM is professional level. Beginners often start near 20–30 WPM and improve quickly with regular practice.
Is the typing test free?
Yes. The typing speed test, the touch typing lessons, and the typing games are all free, with no account required. Your best scores stay in your own browser.
How can I type faster?
Learn proper 10-finger technique with the touch typing lessons, keep your eyes off the keyboard, prioritise accuracy over raw speed, and practise a little every day. Typing games make the daily practice easier to stick with.
Can I take the typing test in Turkish?
Yes. You can switch the test between Turkish and English, and each language has its own curated word pool. Turkish practice also covers the İ, ı, ş, ğ, ç, ö and ü characters.
