Which keys matter most when typing code?

Programming text is full of characters you don’t see as often in regular writing: curly braces { }, square brackets [ ], semicolons, underscores, and equals signs. Getting comfortable with these keys speeds you up in technical writing and in the editor itself.

• Curly and square brackets sit on the top row, close to the right pinky finger.
• The underscore is typed with Shift, while the equals sign is not — be careful not to mix the two up.

How should you practice?

• Make closing every bracket you open a reflex.
• For double-character operators like ==, aim to press both keys back to back without pausing.
• Try typing the underscore in variable names as naturally as you’d type a space.
