Everyday Messaging Practice
How is everyday messaging different?
When you text friends or family, sentences tend to be shorter and end with more question marks and exclamation points. Contractions like “we’re” and “don’t,” plus a string of short sentences, call for a different rhythm than formal writing.
- Question marks and exclamation points are typed with Shift, using the right pinky finger.
- Practice adding the apostrophe in contractions without pausing — it’s typed with the right pinky too.
How should you practice?
- Aim to flow through short, comma-separated sentences in one breath.
- Try picking up speed moving from a question mark straight into an exclamatory sentence.
- Type at a natural, conversational pace, like you’re really texting someone — but stay focused on accuracy.
