Hyphens & Slashes (Dates, Times, Ratios)

Where are hyphens and slashes used?

The hyphen (-) shows up in date ranges, compound words, and time ranges; the slash (/) is used in ratios, dates, and alternative expressions. Since both are mixed in with numbers, they deserve their own exercise.

  • The hyphen key is typed with the right pinky, without Shift.
  • The slash is also typed with the right pinky, just to the right of the main letter keys.

How should you practice?

  • Aim for a smooth transition between numbers and hyphens/slashes without pausing.
  • Pay attention to switching between the colon (:) and the hyphen in time expressions.
  • Try to type date formats automatically, without having to think about them.
