Math Expressions & Units Practice

Why are these symbols so rare in everyday text?

Operators like +, -, ×, and ÷, along with unit abbreviations like sq ft, °F, and mph, don’t show up much in casual writing — but they’re constant in invoices, reports, and technical documents.

  • Reinforce the habit of leaving a space before and after an equals sign.
  • Automate the rule of typing unit abbreviations (sq ft, °F, mph) right against the number with no extra space.

How should you practice?

  • Think of the number-operator-number sequence as a single rhythm.
  • Try to type the minus sign in a negative number quickly, without confusing it with a dash elsewhere in the sentence.
  • Aim to keep moving right past a decimal point (12.5) without pausing.
