10-key typing test
Type each number on the numeric keypad and press Enter. Your score is keystrokes per hour — the unit 10-key jobs use.
How the 10-key test is scored
Every correctly typed digit counts as one keystroke, and so does the Enter that confirms a correct number. Keystrokes per hour (KPH) is your correct keystrokes per minute × 60. Wrong numbers don't count towards KPH and lower your accuracy.
The numbers are random, 3 to 6 digits long, so you can't memorise them. Choose 1, 3 or 5 minutes.
Tips for faster 10-key entry
Rest your middle finger on 5 — most keypads have a small bump on it — with the index finger on 4 and the ring finger on 6. Use the thumb for 0 and the little finger for Enter. Keep your eyes on the source, not the keypad, and let accuracy come first: a wrong figure in a ledger costs far more than a second.
10-key test — frequently asked questions
What is a good 10-key speed?
Requirements vary by employer. Because KPH is just correct keystrokes per minute × 60, you can compare any requirement directly with your result here.
Can I take it on a laptop without a keypad?
Yes — the number row works, and space also confirms a number. But 10-key tests assume a numeric keypad, so a cheap external keypad is worth it if you're preparing for one.
Does Enter count as a keystroke?
Yes, when it confirms a correct number — the same way the space after a correct word counts in a typing test.
