Privacy Policy & Cookies
Who we are
TypeWPM (www.typewpm.com) is a free typing speed test and typing practice website. This policy explains what information the site handles, why, and what choices you have. You can reach the person responsible for the site at info@typewpm.com.
What stays on your device
Every typing test, lesson, game and the AI Coach work without an account. Your results, streak, best scores, key statistics, settings (theme, language, sound) and nickname are kept in your browser's local storage on your own device. We do not receive them. Clearing your browser data, or using the “Clear my data” button on the stats page, removes them.
Information you choose to send
Nothing is sent to our database unless you ask for it. If you submit a score to the leaderboard, create a challenge link or join a typing race, we store the nickname you typed, your WPM, accuracy, test mode and language, and the time. Nicknames are shown publicly and are checked against a list of offensive words, so please do not use your real name or other personal data as a nickname.
Leaderboard entries are public and are kept so the boards stay meaningful. To have an entry removed, email us the nickname and the approximate time of the score.
Optional accounts
An account is optional and is never required for any feature. If you create one, we process: your email address and, if you use Google sign-in, your Google account name and profile picture address (through Firebase Authentication); the username, country, short bio and avatar you choose; and your test statistics, history, streak and badges so they can sync between your devices. To keep you signed in, Firebase stores a sign-in token in your browser's storage — this only happens if you sign in.
Your profile is private unless you switch it to public. A public profile shows your username, avatar, country, bio, statistics and badges. Leaderboard entries made while signed in also carry an internal account identifier. You can export all of your data or delete your account and its data at any time on the account page.
Service providers
We use Hostinger to host the site (its servers receive your IP address and standard request data in access logs), Google Firebase (Realtime Database and Authentication) for the optional social and account features, and the analytics providers above if you accept them. These providers may process data outside your own country, including in the United States and, for Yandex, in Russia. To keep bots away from the database, pages that use the social features load Google reCAPTCHA (through Firebase App Check); it checks that a request comes from a real browser and may process your IP address and device data under Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
How long we keep data
Data in your browser stays until you delete it. Leaderboard, challenge and race entries are kept for as long as the feature runs, unless you ask us to remove them. Account data is kept until you delete your account. Analytics data is kept according to each provider's retention settings.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example in the EU/EEA, the UK or Türkiye) you can ask to access, correct, export or delete your data, object to processing, and withdraw consent at any time. Account holders can do most of this themselves on the account page; for anything else, or for leaderboard entries, email info@typewpm.com. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
TypeWPM is used in classrooms. Tests, lessons and games need no account and send nothing about the student. Accounts are meant for people aged 16 and over, or younger with a parent's or guardian's permission. If you believe a child has created an account without permission, email info@typewpm.com and we will delete it.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy; the date at the top shows the latest version. Questions about privacy: info@typewpm.com. See also the terms of use.
