Every correct character counts, divided by five for average word length, then by minutes elapsed for WPM. Accuracy is correct keystrokes over total. The formula matches every other language on the site.
Do I need an Italian keyboard layout?
No. Any layout works — the test reads the characters you type. The Italian layout puts à, è, ì, ò, ù on dedicated keys, which helps, but the accented letters are a small share of the pool.
What is a good Italian typing speed?
Around 40 WPM is average for an adult. Italian spelling is highly phonetic and predictable, so many people read ahead easily and reach 60+ WPM with steady practice.
